Privacy Policy

The short version: your notebook is yours. We keep what you put in it so the app works, we don't sell it, we don't show ads, and you can download or delete everything at any time.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and a password. Passwords are stored by our sign-in provider in scrambled (hashed) form; we never see them.
- Your notebook: the plants, seeds, dates, notes, check-ins, reminders and settings you add.
- Your photos: pictures you add to your journal, shrunk for phones and stored in a private folder that only your account can open.
- Basic technical records: our hosting and database providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of a request) to run and protect the service.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
- Other people can't see your notebook. Each account's data is locked to that account.
Who helps us run Rooted Stories
- Supabase stores accounts, notebooks and photos (servers in the eastern United States).
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Google Fonts provides the typefaces, so your browser contacts Google to load them.
- AI features (when available): if you use the packet scanner or plant doctor, the photo and question you send are processed by Anthropic to produce the answer. These features are optional.
- Payments (when available): purchases will be handled by a payment provider such as Stripe or Apple. We won't see or store your full card number.
Cookies and storage on your device
The app saves your sign-in and a few preferences (like whether you've seen the welcome tour) in your browser's storage so you stay signed in. We don't use cookies for tracking.
Your choices
- Download your data: in the app, go to More → Account → Download my data. You get a file with your whole notebook and photos.
- Delete your account: More → Account → Delete my account removes your account, notebook and photos permanently. Copies in our providers' routine backups expire on their normal schedule.
- Correct something: edit it in the app, or contact us.
Children
Rooted Stories isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has made an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and for important changes we'll tell you in the app or by email.
